Benefits to Sugaring Over Waxing

If you’ve committed to taking better care of your skin in the new year, you may be a little confused if you should go with the waxing route or the sugaring route. Although these treatments are similar – since they lift your hair from the root – they are different and both have their good points. Of course, we’re a little bias when it comes to sugaring but when you look at the overall pros and cons, you’ll easily see why sugaring is the better option for hair removal.

What is sugaring? It’s using all-natural ingredients, sugar being the main ingredient, of course, to remove unwanted hair at the root. It’s a great hair removal treatment for everyone – even those with sensitive skin, skin allergies, and conditions from as psoriasis, eczema, and PCOS.

What is waxing? Waxing is basically the modern-day version of sugaring. Since sugaring dates back to ancient Egypt, waxing has just been modified to use a variety of waxes for hair removal. Waxing removes the hair follicle, like sugaring, but with the different ingredients in waxes (such as honey, beeswax, lavender, etc), you never know all the ingredients in the wax that is touching your body, and waxing can cause reactions to sensitive skin.

Benefits to sugaring over waxing.

  • It’s gentle to your skin. While waxing can often cause redness and irritation, regular sugaring clients experience less or no reaction with sugaring. That’s because the main ingredients in the sugar paste are only sugar, water, & lemon.
  • Better exfoliation. Sugaring offers better exfoliation because while you are taking dead skin away with hair, the live skin cells stay intact with sugaring. This is why sugaring is less painful than waxing.
  • Less pain. Sugar is applied in the opposite direction of hair growth, and removed in the direction of hair growth. This method causes less breakage and more effective exfoliation. Sugar paste is also applied at room temperature so that it isn’t hot and uncomfortable on your skin like wax can be.
  • It can improve certain skin conditions. Sugaring, with its all natural ingredients, helps to heal chronically dry skin, clear up little red bumps, and gently exfoliates scar tissue that builds up around the follicles from shaving.
  • Ultra-smooth skin. Your skin will feel soft and smooth without feeling over-stripped like you do after conventional waxing. That’s because hot wax takes off more skin than your body naturally wants to let go of.
  • Less side effects. Many of our clients have noticed that by switching from waxing to sugaring, their ingrown hairs, discoloration, damaged skin, and folliculitis have completely disappeared since they’ve begun sugaring.

Benefits to waxing. Some people prefer waxing if their hair is thicker and harder to remove. However, if you keep up with your regular schedule of sugaring, your hair won’t be thick and will be easier to remove in the long run.

As you can see, there are more benefits to sugaring over waxing. If you haven’t yet tried Bare Bodies Sugaring, the only way to know if you prefer it over waxing is to try it!
